What is catnip?
Catnip is a plant containing a bicyclic terpenoid, referred as nepetalactone. Cats are attracted to Catnip after inhaling this chemical which binds to olfactory receptors. The scent does not affect human, however, it acts like a neurostimulator for cats that makes cat's high. Approximately 2/3 of cats are affected by catnip. Some insects are also attracted to Catnip. In responding to catnip, a cat rubs, rolls over, jump up and down, even go nuts for several minutes and then the cat will eventually lost interest.
Catnip is a perennial herb, can be grown indoor.
